SUBJECT: I went to St. Peter's yesterday...
Sunday November 18, 2001 I went to St. Peter's yesterday. The state of affairs pretty much reflects the current state of Ghana. The usual road to the school has not changed since 1972 when I started Form 1. The potholes could easily deter you from approaching the school. The Welcome to St. Peter's signboard had been destroyed by Nkwasco boys as a back retaliation from Persco boys going to destroy their sign. The dorms and classrooms had new paint slapped on, but the WCs and bathrooms we all used do not function at all. It is just sitting there like a piece of expensive real estate. The campus needed a lot of cleaning and weeding. Made one wonder if anyone is really in charge of managing the school compound. The first year kids now fetch water to the kitchen to help with cooking. Of course the water is coming from the swimming pool reservoir which is infested with snakes. The usual jungle that has replaced the swimming pool seems to be growing. I recall we use to weed that whole area, scrub the pool and swim in it for a relaxing afternoon. All in all, a general improvement in appearance but still lacking major substance. I took a whole bunch of digital pictures and will be posting them to the website in the next week. peace, love and i-nity, --Kudjo
